Description

The Dinka people are a Nilotic ethnic group living in South Sudan. They mostly live along river Nile, from Mangala to Renk, in regions of Bahr el Ghazal, Upper Nile and Abyei Area of the Ngok Dinka in South Sudan. The Dinka are famous for making staffs, walking sticks and headrests. Often the staffs represented the hierarchy among the chiefs of the tribe, who might carry a staff to show their rank as distinguished elders.  This is a well-sculpted Dinka staff with a decoration of a female sculpture, has a shiny black patina and shows signs of age and good usage.
