This small pendant belongs to men’s society “bwami” from the Lega tribe an ethnic group found in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Lega people are amongst Africa’s best- known carvers and artists, the Lega tribe art is created for primarily their semisecret associations of men Such bracelets among the art of the Bwami , the women of Kanyamwa grades wore bracelets as indicators of social status. This is a fine old ivory bracelet with no markings or dots and it looks visibly old and used.
