Description
This ancient sculpture originates from the Mbuyu tribe. The Mbuyu are native in the northwest forests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Mbuyu carvings were symbolic and also representatives of various spirits. Such sculptures were important objects in ceremonial activities and some were owned by the Chiefs representing their rank in society.
This typical, old, female ancestor figure from the Mbuyu has an old dark patina which represents its age. Shows traces of frequent usage and natural abrasion loke most tribal art pieces. It has some visible cracks but still in good condition.
