Description
This is a miniature kasai figure from Congo and it shows great signs of age and usage.The Ndegese are located North of the Kuba kingdom situated in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . The headdress on Ndegese figures represents the one placed on the king’s head during his installation and symbolizes understanding, intelligence, distinction, respect, and unity among chiefs. Numerous symbols are carved on the neck and on the elongated torso and arms in imitation of scarification patterns. The patterns on Ndegese statues simply allude to praise phrases that encode the mysteries of Dengese chiefly authority.The following statue has a dark brown patina and is undoubtedly a bush collected figure.
