Description
This helmet originates from the Toposa tribe, a Nilotic ethnic group native to South Sudan. They are mainly a pastoralists community with a recent history of war. They live in a hostile, harsh society because of their nomadic lifestyle. Characterized by conflicts and raids to their neighbors like the Nyangatom, Karamojong, Jie, and Dodos and Turkana of Kenya.
This is an example of an ancient Toposa helmet with a unique design. This headdress was worn by Toposa warriors during wars. The magnificent piece is made out of copper and the inside is covered in mud. It is bush collected and looks visibly old and traces of usage.
