The Zande are  found in the African countries of South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and the Northern Democratic Republic of Congo.  Zande sculptures are often representations of ancestors   Some of the Zande sculptures are associated with the highest rank of the secret Mani society which protects society members from the dangers of illness, hunting, and evil spirits. The following statue has a dark patina and looks considerably old.
